NVIDIA has recently announced 3DVision 2 - their second generation 3D gaming technology at GeForce LAN 6. This is a major update for NVIDIA 3DVision since its debut in 2009. There are several improvements, but the biggest change is a much brighter picture.

3DVision 2 is designed to improve picture brightness by up to two times, compared to the original 3DVision technology. This is done by a technology known as NVIDIA 3D LightBoost. It increases screen brightness and environmental lighting, allowing you to read your keyboard more easily.

Because of this new LightBoost technology, new glasses and a new monitor are required to use 3DVision 2. The glasses have been redesigned with a more slim earpiece, for more comfortable use with headsets. The lenses are 20% larger and comfort has been improved. Furthermore, a light blocker has been added to the top to shield your vision from unwanted outside light. The price for the glasses remain untouched at $99, or $149 with the emitter kit.

These new glasses will be available this month, as well as the first certified 3DVision 2 monitor - the ASUS VG278H. This 27" full LED backlit 1920 x 1080 monitor features NVIDIA 3D LightBoost technology, 2ms response time, adjustable IR emitter, and they will include the new glasses. The price for this kit will be $699.

I know brightness was a big issue with the first revision. Glad they fixed this.

i've just been adjusting the brightness up to compensate. maybe i'll get a pair of the glasses at some point down the road as i already have the emitter. what i've got now is great and i'm happy w/ it.

So we can't use old 3D vision specification monitors with all of the features of 3D2?

Yeah you won't get the brighter image from 3D LightBoost technology. Only new monitors will have this. I'd love to get 3D Vision 2 but it's too costly for me plus I need much more GPU power.

What retarded, I bet all the Monitor does is turn of the brightness when you turn on 3D, Also I just turn up my brightness in the game, FIXED!

With 3D, you have to overcome the dimming effect from the glasses. I've tried NVIDIA 3D, and although it was impressive, 3D Vision 2 sounds like a much needed upgrade. But for $700, no thanks. Not any time soon.

Maybe once this drops in price, 3D will actually be worth it. Right now it's nothing but a fad.
