  • OCZ Announces Octane SSD Series

OCZ has recently announced a new 2.5" SSD series, called Octane. These new drives utilize the Indilinx Everest controller and will be available in either SATA III 6Gb/s or SATA II 3Gb/s interface. OCZ will even release a 1TB version, and the price of these drives are lower than you might think.

    Details

The OCZ Octane SSDs use the Indilinx Everest controller to produce up to 560 MB/s read speeds and 400 MB/s write speeds in SATA III. Up to 512MB DRAM cache is included and random read speeds are rated at 45,000 IOPS. They'll be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB sizes.

The Indilinx Everest controller gives the Octane SSDs an innovative latency reduction technology, bringing down read/write access times to as low as 0.06ms and 0.09ms respectively. A "fast boot" feature reduces boot times compared to OCZ Vertex 3 drives by up to 50%!

In addition to TRIM support, the OCZ Octane SSDs feature Indilinx's "NDurance" technology, increasing the lifespan of the NAND flash memory and further reducing performance degradation. These new SSDs will be available on November first, and for only $1.10 to $1.30 per gigabyte! This is a considerable reduction in cost for high end SSDs, making it possible for the Octane 128GB to sell for under $170.

The sticker on the top one is wonky. Might get one of the older generation SSD's once these things come out

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I was already planning to get a second Vertex 3 60GB, but now I might get two more.
