Asrock has just released information on their latest lineup of X79 motherboards. The high end model is the X79 Extreme9 which has eight memory banks, five PCIe x16 2.0 slots and an add-on card with Ethernet and audio. ASRock has also included a dual 8-pin EPS connectors on the board. Also we find an even dozen Serial ATA ports. Audio and at least some of the Extreme's network connectivity is farmed out to a PCI Express x1 expansion card that appears to be powered by Creative's new Core3D audio chip.
The X79 Extreme7 model lacks the add-in card and two of the memory banks, but adds an old-school PCI slot and has some more extensive VRM cooling.
The Extreme4 model has only four DDR3 slots and 7 expansion slots, of which three are PCIe x16 slots. There is also a micro atx version of this board called the X79 Extreme4 M. The X79 Extreme4-M adopts an 8-phase VRM for CPU power delivery and is kitted-out with driver-MOSFETs, as well as high-grade solid state chokes. There are a total of four DIMM slots, three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots and a traditional PCI slot thrown in too.
