Pages: Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is an indie horror game made by Frictional Games. But don't let the "indie" label fool you, Amnesia is full of quality. They released an SDK some time ago, and people have been taking advantage of this. As a result, hundreds of custom campaigns (called custom stories) have appeared on sites like ModDB.

I already have a thread on my picks for Amnesia custom stories, located here, in which you'll find more than enough info and images. So I'll be brief here.

Disponentia by Mackiiboy. One of the most original and interesting custom stories, based on a true story and a real haunted mansion. Very innovative, I consider it to be the scariest Amnesia mod.

Emma's Story by Evil Armor. It even recreates the main hall and dining room of Resident Evil.

Amnesia Hill: Harold's Story by VengeanceFilms. It's a custom story inspired by Silent Hill, but more directly than all the others. Complete with Silent Hill references, similar atmosphere, and some sound effects. It's a very well made mod and very long, there's essentially two long campaigns for it.

White Night by Tanshaydar. The most famous Amnesia full conversion mod, very well received and very original.

Through The Portal by DamnNoHTML. The most wild, mesmerizing Amnesia mod. Amazing otherworldly experience.

Mental Memorial by DnALANGE. A full conversion mod with distinct atmosphere, new monsters, new gameplay mechanics, new sounds, and is just very well put together.

La Caza by Team Ninja-Samurai. An award-winning, highly sought after mod.

Abduction by Anxt. The most true to the original game.

The Attic by Everlost. A three chapter series, ranks #2 as scariest Amnesia mod.

Out of Time by Custommapper. One of the most innovative mods, full of potential. It could use some improvements in level design/bug removal though.

The Things in the Night by DoomGod Collab Productions. One of the longest and most impressive custom stories. Unpredictable and an overall amazing experience.

There are plenty of other enjoyable campaigns, but these are the ones that stand out the most. Moving on...

It's a very subjective list bored, and 7 Mods are just to little. Ofcourse this article could be added onto but I mean there's plenty of goddamn amazing mods out for Morrowind and Oblivion, as well as a few great ones for Skyrim, including Moothpath to Elsweyr which is already here.

i def0 have to start playing HL 2 at some point. i'm almost done w/ Bioshock 2 and i want to do the Minervas Den DLC when i'm done. along w/ the other games i play every day, it's just that this 'work thing' seriously cuts into my gaming time.
maybe i could quit my job and move into my parents basement after i build a storage room for the RedBull and Twinkies.

Looks like you can't count (or spell ) as there are much more than 7 mods listed. But anyway, mods can and will be added to this list. If you have any suggestions on full conversion mods you'd like to see added, go ahead and suggest them.

@ lhotse - There is of course a HL1, that should be played first. Don't bother playing the original, go for Half Life Source which is a remake of it on a newer engine, or better yet, Black Mesa which is on the list (a better remake). Then go through HL2 and the two episodes for it. By the time you're done with Bioshock 2, I'm sure Black Mesa will be out.

Added Oblivion Lost for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl. Not sure how I forgot this one... also keep in mind that Underhell chapter 1 and Lost Alpha are due out soon. The latter is scheduled for September 2012.

Added Out of Time for Amnesia, and The Way to Pripyat for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat. For those who don't know, Black Mesa Source will have its first release on Sept 14, 2012. It's essentially 2/3 of the game maybe, it ends at Lambda Core level. The rest will come at a later date. In other news, Misery 2.0 comes soon and Lost Alpha got delayed.

Nothing compared to Underhell but it's still awesome.

It's the best thing I've played in a long time.
It's an exact remake with more details, it's just too good. Whether you played HL1 or not, get this! It's how HL1 should be played.
