• EVGA Announces SR-X Motherboard

After much anticipation, EVGA has finally made an official announcement on their main page for the SR-X motherboard. It is the successor to the SR-2 - a dual socket enthusiast board. What makes them unique is the fact that they're some of the only dual socket boards with overclocking features. Much like the SR-2, the SR-X utilizes EVGA's flagship overclocking features, as well as quad GPU support and other goodies, making this an enthusiast's dream come true.

EVGA's SR-X motherboard is of the HPTX form factor, the same as the SR-2. Therefore case compatibility is limited - some compatible cases include custom Mountain Mods cases (optional motherboard tray usually required), Lian-Li PC-V2120, Lian-Li PC-90, Lian-Li PC-P80N, Lian-Li PC-Z70, Rosewill BLACKHAWK-ULTRA, Enermax FULMO GT, Xigmatek Esylium, some custom LittleDevil cases, and perhaps some others.

It utilizes Intel's C606 chipset, which has native SAS, USB 3.0, and SATA III 6.0 Gb/s. It is also compatibile with two Xeon E5 series LGA 2011 CPUs, not Intel Core i7 or any other desktop model. A CPU compatibility list can be found here. The SR-X also has PCI-E 3.0 support, and can run in the following configurations.

    • One PCI-E Card - x16
    • Two PCI-E Cards - x16/x16
    • Three PCI-E Cards - x16/x16/x16
    • Four PCI-E Cards - x16/x16/x8/x8

As you can see, that is a massive amount of PCI-E lanes (48), topping even X79 motherboards. This makes the SR-X the best multi-GPU motherboard on the market. It has a total of seven PCI-E slots. Twelve DIMM slots are also present on the motherboard, so you can use up to 96GB of RAM. It uses an Intel NIC, and like the X79 Classified and FTW motherboards, the SR-X has 100% POSCAPS for superior overclocking with extreme cooling. Now lets take a look at some photos of this monstrous motherboard.

16x16x16x for three cards. Not bad. Strangely distributed RAM slots though. I guess we'll see some more records broken now with this thing? Practically all it's good for.
